Which dental insurance is the best? Few people question the importance of having good dental insurance. Maintaining oral health and hygiene through professional cleanings, included in almost all policies, and access to preventive treatments at a low cost is an undeniable advantage.
However, once you decide to get dental insurance, you might ask, which type of insurance is the best?
The answer, as we always say, is that it depends. To provide a neutral perspective, we’ll rely on a recent analysis by Forbes, which examined the cost, deductible, network of available clinics, and waiting periods of various insurance companies in Florida. These factors are crucial in determining the best dental insurance for you. Here are the findings:
Most dental plans cover preventive care, cleanings, and common treatments like fillings and crowns. According to the study, Anthem Dental is considered “the best overall” due to its benefits and higher coverage percentages. Notable benefits include an annual maximum out-of-pocket expense of $2,000, 100% coverage for preventive care (cleanings, X-rays) with no waiting period; 80% coverage for primary care (fillings and simple extractions), and 50% coverage for significant treatments like oral surgery and crowns. The study also notes that implants and dentures are covered at 50% after a six-month waiting period. For parents concerned about their children’s care, Anthem includes orthodontic coverage for kids up to 18 years old at 50%.
In second place, the study ranked Guardian plans. Among its benefits, the annual maximum is $1,500. Preventive care is covered at 100% with no waiting period; essential treatments are covered at 80%, also with no waiting period, and dental implants and orthodontics are covered at 50% after a 12-month waiting period. Interestingly, it covers teeth whitening at 50% after a six-month waiting period.
Ameritas plans, ranking third, offer a unique flexibility with no waiting periods for coverage. The annual maximum is $2,500 in the first year, increasing to $3,000 starting in the second year. Preventive care is covered 100% within their network, with no waiting period. Primary treatments are covered 20% with no waiting period in the first year and 50% from the second year onward, providing a reassuring level of coverage.
Cigna Dental, ranking fourth, stands out for its cost-saving features as it has no deductible. Humana, on the other hand, is noted for its substantial preventive care benefits, providing a comprehensive comparison of the plans.
As you can see, the best dental insurance for you is a personal choice, based on your preferences and needs. It’s always advisable to speak with your specialist at Univista Insurance.
